Wobbly Wednesday

The pellets
Scooping out of the can

Pouring crumbles into the feeder
Today we'll take a quick peek at the food that the "meat birds" eat.  They eat these crumbled pellets and they are eating quite a bit each day.  Just as well, they only have a few more days left on their wobbly legs.  In addition to their pellets, they get "scratch" which is a mixture of grains with a lot of corn.  They also drink water with electrolytes--gatorade for the chicken coop.  We have a few more days feeding these wobbly birds before we learn the art and science of butchery.

Landscape fabric

Tomato "slip & slide"
This morning, our group pulled up the landscape fabric and the plastic from the last tomato fields.  It was like trying to wrestle with a 200 foot long "slip and slide" covered in rotten tomatoes.  Our one sweet moment was finding a mole underneath.  Here's to hoping he figured out how to dig his own hole after living underneath the landscape fabric all summer.

Nora's tenon
Next we went to work on our timber frame projects.  No new skills today, just "honing" the skills we've already begun learning.

Patrick peeking under the remay
We also took a moment to check at our crops growing in the hoop house under a cover of remay.

This afternoon, our group spent time with Olivier trying to figure out what to do with the cows and their pasture.  The grass isn't very high and the cows aren't keen on eating their all of their hay in the fields, so he come up with a plan.  We put a mixture of water and molasses in the sprayer and sprayed it on a section of the pasture.  We will see tomorrow if the cows were drawn to this area.  Here is a little video clip of Brian, shaking up the mixture.  Sorry I haven't figured out how to rotate these clips:

We then went out to the pasture and applied the juice.  Stay tuned for results.

Here are some other beautiful photos I took today.  No stories, unless you ask!
