Feeding the Animals and a new week!

Last week was all about manure.  This week, I'll focus more on feeding, which is one of the most fun jobs around.

Today we'll look at the horses.

How can one tell if the horses are hungry?  Take a look at this video:

Horses in the wild just move and find new pasture.  Our dear Belgians, Ruby and April, are given pasture and plenty of hay.  Here's a video clip of Emily feeding our girls:

This morning, we shared the results of our research on fencing.  Olivier gave us scenarios for livestock projects and we teamed up to research the animal's need and which electrical fencing materials would support sustainable grazing. It was enjoyable to hear each group's approach and to listen to the questions.  One group was surprised to find they had forgotten a somewhat important item.  "We'll find it in the barn." was the solution.  The following projects referred to the barn and it became "the magic barn" where all needed materials can be found if you just dig around a bit.

In the afternoon, our group returned to Blue Ox farm to spread some more composted oxen manure and then moved some iris in our homestead garden.
