Making Lunch and another farmwork variety afternoon

This morning, Kiyoshi and I made lunch for everyone again.  We made fresh basil pesto pasta, carrots and sour cream/roasted garlic/chive dip and a apple-ginger-parsnip crisp for dessert.  We were busy but had a lot of fun, as usual.

Piling brush in cleared pasture
This afternoon, we began by clearing brush in the new pasture being cleared.  The area is full of 30 year or so old trees and shrubs and, when cleared, will allow for better airflow in the North Waslaske fields.

Docking and castrating
Next we returned to the barn and began the castrating and docking of our lambs.  Many of us questioned the necessity for these operations and with research, we learned how they affected the animals and the work load.  It was decided that we do the work, yet if someone wasn't comfortable, they could opt out.

Welding project
There were other tasks:  welding the trailer for carrying wood, cleaning and organizing the lower barn, putting rock gravel in the basement.  I helped Emily feed the cows and on a lark, we decided to look in on the piglets.

The piglet's A-frame shelter had been blown by the wind and it was hung up in some saplings.  We tried to lift it down but realized that we needed more help.  I gathered up Rebekah and then found Olivier.  He instructed us to make "rebar staples" to hold the shelter to the ground.  It wasn't easy:

Rebekah "rowing" a rebar into shape

After bending two bars into a "u" shape, we returned and installed them on the shelter.  More fixes to come!
